Porcelain Tile VS Vinyl Floor

In interior decoration, porcelain tile and vinyl floor are two major material for floor. Many people would be caught in a dilemma during house renovation: which one should I choose for my house? Here are some tips from us.

1: Family Member

If there are senior citizens or infant in the house, it’s always better to install vinyl floor from the perspective of safety. The porcelain tile are glazed in production so the abrasion may not be enough and can be very slippery and dangerous when its surface meets with water. Besides, porcelain tile is very hard and heavy in structure, any fall down on it can be very hurtful. If you have a baby practicing walking in the house, it might be better to install some softer floor in addition to cover all the pointy edge part of the furniture. 2: Daily care

Many people would say porcelain tile is easier to maintain compared with vinyl floor, but it’s not absolutely true. In the short term, the porcelain tile doesn’t need much effort to maintain. You just need to keep off the dust. But in the long term, the grunt line may become dark because of too much dust concentration.If any scratch remain on it, it’s also hard to remove. Also, the replacement of porcelain tile can be annoying. Currently, the abrasion performance of vinyl floor is much better than the porcelain tile. And you don’t need to spend too much effort on the plank care.

3: Home comfort

The vinyl floor is better used to keep warm while porcelain tile is better at maintaining the coolness in the room. If the whole room is covered with porcelain tile, the whole atmosphere would be quite cold. The wood floor or vinyl floor with wood color, on the contrary, would make people feel quite cozy and warm. In some regions with all-year-round low temperature, it’s always better to use vinyl floor with wood color in the house. Psychologists also suggest that floor with sound-abbreviation function can render people at ease, which would be a great relief for people living in the fast-paced concrete forest.

4: Facing direction of the house

It's preferable to choose wood floor vinyl floor with wood color if the house faces north (well, maybe Australians would disagree) or situates in a place with few sunlight. Porcelain tiles may give lower temperature in summer, but when in winter, it would also possibly make you feel freezing(well, maybe northern Australians would disagree).

5: Installation cost

Generally speaking, the price of vinyl floor is higher than that of porcelain tile. But in fact, good product always costs. This is not always true.  In installation, porcelain tile can be easily damaged. Also, the tiles are heavier so the process would be more grueling. And you also need to pay for extra raw material like cement, sand. Nowadays, the laminate floor and vinyl floor all comes with the DIY click and need no sand and cement.
