Solutions to the Edge Banding of the WPC and SPC Treads

As the WPC and SPC floor are more and more widespread used, accessories with the same material also come into view these years，among them with Stair Tread is the most popular.

SPC/WPC Stair Tread has the texture of simulated solid wood grain, various colors, comfortable foot feeling, and advantages of warm in winter and cool in summer，they are also environmental protection，formaldehyde-free and waterproof, by using renewable material，the cost is relatively lower than solid wood floor, with the improvement of the awareness of  household environmental protection, forest resources limit cutting and wood price increasing, SPC/WPC products has become a better choice and replacement of stairs decoration and grab a more market share now.

WPC/SPC Stair Tread is not strange for the owner of villa or attic，because they will have the stairs to be decorated in their house，especially in the countries with a low population density in which people are likely to live in a single family house or a duplex dwelling. If your house is abundant in area and with a luxurious decoration style and pursuit of life quality, the SPC/WPC Treads will be your most ideal choice. In addition to household, SPC/WPC Stair Treads are also can be used in commercial occasions such as hotels, apartment stores and so on because they are durable and cost-effective.

But so far, the edge banding of both sides of stair board is a difficult problem to solve, In some cases，when the two sides of the the treads depends on the wall directly，the problem of the banding is not enough to worry about, but under the most circumstance, at least one side of the treads will be exposed to the air, if they can not be dealt with very well, it will badly affect the aesthetic.

Here are some solutions proposed by our designer for your reference：

Directly paint on the sides of the tread into the same color as the tread, so that the paint covers the shape of both sides of the stair board，then the steps blend in with the stairs and looks simple and atmospheric，and its easy to operate，suitable for the room of simple decoration style just as the below effect：

The customized edge banding stickers of the same shape of the stairs also can be used to cover the sides of them. They are made of the same color film and wear layer as the stair tread and can be made into the same color and texture of the treads. They are of low cost and easy to operate，but have the possibility of failing off in the damp or high temperature environment because their own characteristics, so they are not very suggested.

Next is the customized plastic banding which need to make a new moulding with the same shapes of the sides of the treads, these banding can be divided into two kinds with one kind in  black or brown single color and the other kind can be made in the same color of the floor by transfer printing technology but also with a higher cost. This kind of banding can be installed by inserted and glued on the sides of the treads, you can check the effect in the photos below:

The last but the best choice is to make a carved banding of the same material and specific sizes of the treads which are in better fit and more durable, the production way is to wrap the tread and the banding with the wear layer and color film layer and cut them into 45 degree angle respectively, then make the notches on both of them and connect the notches with glue, and finally install them on the stairs in one piece which is more beautiful and consistent. However, this method cost more labor and has a higher requirement on the technology, so the price will be definitely higher than the other methods. Both the rounded and square nose can be made in this way.
